• Reservations are now available at the Tesla website.
  • Tesla has mailed out thank you to those that waited in line (some others who reserved later got the thank you, too).  Here's a nice scan if you were looking for a nice computer desktop background!
  • Tesla has posted a Model 3 reservations FAQ.  My favorite line "Q: What more can you tell me about Model 3? A: It’s going to be awesome."
  • Pre order reservation count timeline (all in EST)
  • 3/31/16 - 11:50pm - At end of the reveal, Musk announced Tesla already had 115,000 reservations
  • 4/1/16 - 12:07am - TheVerge reports Tesla is over 133k pre-orders.
  • 4/1/16 - 9:11am - Musk tweets they are now up to 180k reservations.
  • 4/1/16 - 10:23am - Musk says he thought the reservations would slow, but they haven't & they're up to 198k deposits
  • 4/1/16 - 7:26pm - Elon tweeted they were up to 232k pre-orders.
  • 4/2/16 - 12:09pm - Elon updated as of 7am, they're at 253k
  • 4/3/16 - 11:28am - up to 276k by end of day on Saturday, the 2nd
  • 4/7/16 - 10:45am EST - More than 325,000 reservations received "making this the single biggest one-week launch of any product ever"
  • 5/15/16 - About 373,000. This reservation total is a net number after customer cancellations of about 8,000 & Tesla cancelled about 4,200 reservations on the belief that they could have been duplicates from speculators.
  • In person reservations have started in many parts of the world.  I'm thrilled that over 200 people showed up at our local store outside Philadelphia, way more than I had expected.  Now to wait for the reveal tonight!  Some pictures below from our local Tesla line.
  • Link to the reservation agreement provided by Tesla.  Some key points are:
    • "The Reservation Payment is fully refundable at any time"
    • If, for some reason, you need to defer the purchase of your 3, you can do so once "you have the option to relinquish your reservation sequence position and defer to a later position to be determined by us (only one deferral is permitted)."
  • Tesla published a blog post detailing how reservations will be handled starting March 31st.  I'm happy it seems like East Coasters can start reserving when our stores open versus waiting in the line until West coast stores open "The first, which will allow you to get a better spot in the queue, is to visit your local Tesla store when it opens on March 31st."
  • As of at least March 18th, 2016, the employee window to put down reservations for the 3 has opened. Elektrek.co has the full story.  Employees seemingly haven't seen the car or seen specs and are ordering "sight unseen."
  • Similar to employees, current S/X owners are going to be given order priority.  While this makes some potential 3 customers unhappy, it makes sense that employees and current owners would be the best 'beta' testers for the first cars off the line.  I just hope some of the tax incentives are left for the rest of us.
  • In February 2016, we got more news from Elon via twitter (screenshot below).  $1000 reservations (deposits) will be offered in store on March 31 and online the next day. He was also quoted as saying that the highly optioned cars will be produced first in the quarter 4 earnings call, meaning if you want a base model 3, you'll probably not be first in line, even if you reserve ASAP.
  • Elon tweeted on September 2, 2015 that the unveil and pre-orders for the Model 3 will begin in March 2016.
